Before purchasing TI-Nspire Computer Software, download a free 30-day trial of the TI-Nspire Student Software from TI’s website. For Technology, choose TI-Nspire, and for View, choose Math & Science Computer Software (click the Find button to submit).
GETTING THE RIGHT SOFTWARE While TI's linking software will support a TI-Graph Link under Windows or Macintosh with any TI graphing calculator, homemade link cables require homemade software for transferring data with your calculator. (The serial link is reported to work with TI's software in 'black cable' mode, however.). Try TI-Nspire™ Student Software. Take advantage of identical graphing calculator functionality on the computer with TI-Nspire™ CX Student Software or TI-Nspire™ CX CAS Student Software. In addition to transferring files between the graphing calculator and computer, and updating the graphing calculator’s OS, you can create documents. This feature is powered by TI-Nspire Document Player (which works in conjunction with but is different from TI-Nspire Computer Software). Additionally, TI-Nspire documents can be exported to a file that is compatible with Cabri. Hidden in the File drop-down menu is the Export option; choose File→Export. This is a set of functions for the TI-Nspire CX CAS to complement the textbook 'Essentials of Statistics' by Mario F. The functions automat some of the more arduous calculations. The package includes documention and source code and is free to use and distribute.
To install a purchased version of TI-Nspire Computer Software from a CD, insert the CD, and follow the prompts. Select the default options that pop up during the installation process. A shortcut is automatically placed on your computer desktop, unless you deselect the check box for this during the installation process. It is important to be connected to the Internet during the installation process.

Science (from the Latin word scientia, meaning 'knowledge') is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. The earliest roots of science can be traced to Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia in around 3500 to 3000 BCE. If you hover over the name of a recent document, the preview window shows you the first page of that document. Or, if you hover over an application icon, the preview window shows you an example of that application as well as a short description of what the application does.
If you get to a point that you don’t feel like you need to see the Welcome screen every time you open your TI-Nspire Computer Software, a fix is available. Just deselect the Always Show This at Startup check box in the lower-left corner.
The Welcome screen on TI-Nspire Teacher Software includes three additional options. You can see the View Content, Manage Handhelds, and Transfer Documents options directly from the Welcome screen.
Here is a typical TI-Nspire Computer application screen with annotations describing its various components.
The .tns extension convention
All TI-Nspire files are identified by a .tns file extension. This extension is only viewable if the file resides on your computer and cannot be seen in the My Documents view on your handheld device.
While browsing for files on your computer, consider using the Detail view. By clicking the Type heading, all files are sorted by type, allowing you to quickly spot those that have a .tns extension.
Where to get your .tns files
Here are four ways that a .tns file may end up on your computer:
You transfer a file from a handheld device to your computer using TI-Nspire Computer Software.
You create a file using TI-Nspire Computer Software and save it to your computer.
You mine the Internet for .tns files created by someone else and download them to your computer. Why do the work if someone else has already done it?
A friend or colleague e-mails a .tns file to you as an attachment.
The TI-Nspire Computer Software Documents Toolbox has five different parts that perform functions vital to the creation of any document. Use the tabs near the top of the Documents Toolbox panel to choose the part of the Documents Toolbox that you would like to access.
How to access the Application menu
The Application menu should look extremely familiar. It looks and works exactly the same as the menu that you see on the handheld when you press [MENU]. Just like your handheld, the Application menu looks different depending on which application you are working on in the Documents workspace. In the first screen, a Graphs page is shown, so the Application menu reflects all the tools that are available in that environment.
How to check out the Page Sorter view
The second tab of the Documents Toolbox is the Page Sorter view. On your handheld device, press
for a Page Sorter view of a document. With TI-Nspire Computer Software, the Page Sorter view is organized vertically in the Documents Toolbox panel. The Page Sorter view reveals thumbnail pictures of the two pages that comprise Problem 1.
Notice that this document contains at least three problems. To reveal the contents of Problem 2 in the Page Sorter view, just double-click Problem 2. Double-click a problem number a second time to hide its contents.
When you are in the Page Sorter view, you can click any page in the slider sorter to bring the page into full view. To perform work in the full page area, you must move the mouse to the Full Page view and click once.
To change the page order, click and drag a page in the Page Sorter view and drop it to a new location. To delete a page, just click the thumbnail and press Delete.

Use the thumbnail screens to quickly navigate from one page to any other page in the document. If you would like to copy a page from one document and paste it somewhere else, both the copying and pasting are best done using the Page Sorter view. Follow these steps to copy a page:

Do you want to copy more than one page of a document? Consider copying and pasting an entire problem. The steps are similar, but in Step 1, click the name/number of the problem that you would like to copy (located directly above the first page of any problem in the Page Sorter view).
