Positive thinking is a skill that is worth learning for all of us
If you’re wanting to stay competitive, focussing on 10-mile and 25-mile time trials for example can be better goals than long sportives or endurance rides. As, in your 40’s and 50’s, by continuing to include higher intensity intervals and efforts in your training, you can slow down your slowing down. In a cycling time trial, every second counts, so we’ve partnered with World and Olympic Champion Joanna Rowsell-Shand to develop the 10 Mile Cycling Time Trial Plan. This time trial training plan includes sessions that are used regularly by Joanna, plus a couple which helped her become British National Time Trial Champion in 2013.
A little bit more than a year on from her stroke, Megan was classified as a C3 athlete and was accepted on to the British Cycling Paralympic Development Programme. She made her debut ride for Great Britain in March 2015 at the Para cycling track World Championship, placing 4th. By March 2016, Megan was ranked No.1 in her class, becoming a double World Champion and double World Record holder in 500 metres time trial and the 3000 metres individual pursuit. She preceded to smash her World Records at the Rio Paralympic Games 2016 where she won her first Paralympic gold.
'Winning Gold wasn't even on my mind, I just knew I wanted more from life and had a lot more to give.' Megan is now aiming for a medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Personally, Megan is striving to launch her own business, providing cycling opportunities within the educational sector, with a key focus on children being in care. She is a motivational speaker, inspiring her audience to never give up and overcoming barriers to success. 'My role now is to captivate, educate and motivate. Seeing the positives through the negatives is a skill worth learning.'
