There are many image creation and manipulation software programs.
However, there are two main types of images:
Make sure that there is no sheet format, so delete it so that the page is white. In the tree, right click on sheet and select properties. Set the scale to 1:1 and set the sheet size to 'Custom' and enter the drawing width and height in mm. File save as png. Then open the png file in Gimp or other drawing program.
To overcome this an external plugin inkscape-pages provides multi-page support through generating a master page with links to subpages. However this plugin will not produce SVG 2.0 code for future compatibility. Nevertheless it will help creating multiple pages for later export to PDF (e.g. With the help of pdftk). If you can help with updating the page, please contact the Inkscape developers mailing list, or the docs mailing list Contents 1 Generic tricks and tips 2 New Tips and Tricks Scratchpad 2.1 PDF/EPS. Select the Create Multi-page PDF from Page Tiles option in the General section. In Illustrator, create a new document or open an existing Illustrator file with multiple-page tiles. If you create a new document, specify a custom width and height large enough for all the pages in the PDF. Click on 'Create PDF', Choose 'From Multiple Files' and select the pdfs you want to combine. These will show up as individual pages in the pdf document. To combine them to a single page go to File - Print Under Page Handling change Page Scaling to Multiple pages per sheet. Then you can customize how many pages you want per sheet.
Raster or bitmap images are a majority of the digital images you generally encounter. They are the default output of everything from digital cameras to most graphics editing software like Paint or Paintbrush. They are made up of pixels, which is to say a grid of colored rectangular dots.
The advantage of raster graphics is that at high resolutions (lots of pixels in a small area) you can have very fine control over color and shape; raster images can contain millions of colors and look very realistic.
However, the major downside to raster images is that the more the images are manipulated after creation, the more the quality declines. For instance, if you create your image at one size, making it bigger can create jagged-looking edges (“pixelation”), while shrinking it can lead to colors and shapes blurring into each other.
Vector images are created with vector graphics software (like Inkscape). Instead of being made of dots, vector images are made of mathematically-defined lines and curves. Those lines can also be joined together to form larger objects, each of which can be given its own style (colors, patterns, etc.).
Because all of the elements of the vector image are defined by mathematical formulae and not by a grid of dots as in a raster image, sharpness is maintained regardless of how much the image is enlarged. However large or small you make it, the curves are simply recalculated and redrawn, without losing quality.
As a result, a single vector image can be used for different sizes of the final image presentation. For example, the same image will look equally sharp and clear – and have exactly the same colors and proportions – on both a business card and a large poster.
One downside is that, if used for “realistic” drawing, vector images can have a too-clean, artificial look.
Depending on how you intend to use your image, either raster or vector graphics may better suit your needs.
Inkscape is a program for creating and editing vector graphics.
It is the ideal tool for drawing logos and icons, creating (animatable) graphicsfor websites, for composing posters and flyers, or for making patterns for usewith cutting machines and laser engravers.
It is also a good choice for drawing short comics, making art, building userinterface mockups and making or editing diagrams created by other software.People use it for fun projects, such as map-making, creating birthday cards, painting on eggs, 2D game graphics and for many, many more purposes.
Inkscape is not the ideal tool for some other purposes, but there exist verypowerful alternative free software programs which we recommend withoutreservations:
- Photo editing (raster graphics): Gimp
- Desktop publishing (multi-page documents, printing in CMYK color space): Scribus
- CAD (parametrical construction, engineering): LibreCAD (2D)
- Painting (raster graphics): Krita
Here are some examples of the types of images and projects that can be made with Inkscape:

I just hit a wall this morning. Game 60: july 31, 2015the initials game. Now that my game was finished, I wanted to start learning inkscape to escape from Corel draw.
So I bought a book about inkscape, start to read it and it is very interesting. Then I tried making some prototype to practice myself to use it and clarify some elements while reading the books.
I decided to make a card set for a somewhat Battlemaster card variant that I am going to use in one of my new game.
So I do the usual, draw 9 cards on a sheet, place the information I need and then I said, OK, it's time to clone the model on every other page then add the content of the cards.
So I was looking through the menu to know how I could add a page and did not find anything. Checked in my book with no results. Looked on the net and got my big surprise:
Inkscape does not support multiple pages ..
(lightning storm sound in the background)
For me, it's so basic that it was impossible for a software with sophisticated and impressive features to not support multiple pages. I would have done multi-page right from the start.
Some people suggested Scribus. But the problem with us, game designer, is that our work fall in between documents and pictures. It's not a text accompanied with pictures (except for the rules) and it is not a single drawing. We need multiple drawing arranged differently across multiple pages.
So my question is, for those who use inkscape, how do you work around this problem?
Some people suggested using 1 layer for each page but I use multiple layers to separate my work so it would be too confusing to separate pages this way.
Else I though of saving each sheet of card in a different file.
I know there is nandeck for cards. I want to limit the number of software I use.
Apparently, they expect to implement this feature in version 0.49, but i don't know in which year that version will be released.
